The mission of The House of Music is to teach and mentor underprivileged youth throughout San Diego in an effort to find and develop the next generation of artists while providing skills that will teach more than music artistry such as: work ethic, discipline, teamwork, communication skills, self-esteem, building confidence, and other life skills. The House of Music will offer group classes to those wanting to learn regardless of income or ability to afford the high cost of instruments.
The House of Music is a San Diego based non-profit established in August 2019 and founded by Radio Host Chris Springer from the award winning KSDS Jazz 88.3 FM and Music Producer of The South Bay Latin Music Festival. Chris has been a Radio Host and in the music industry for over 20 years. Chris Is determined to share his passion and knowledge of: The American Art Form of Jazz, Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo, Latin Jazz, Cuban, Cumbia, Boogaloo, and various other genres of music.
Catherine Rells is Co-founder and Executive Director of The House of Music. Catherine has over 20 years of management experience and has served in various roles at all levels in both for-profit and non-profit organizations. She is also Chief Executive Officer of Gene Tox Lab Solutions and is committed to serving the underserved communities throughout her birthplace of San Diego. She has a talent for developing relationships and is focused on creating new collaborative arrangements with community partners.
